Living
Well Project
Program
Description:
The Hmong population in Fresno County is one of the largest Southeast Asian
communities in the Central Valley, and one
of the most underserved in terms of mental health services due to the lack of
education, advocacy, Hmong mental health care providers, and culturally and
linguistically appropriate services. To try to address this issue, Fresno Center
for New Americans (FCNA), with funding from The California Endowment (TCE),
The National Asian Women Health Organizations (NAWHO), Substance Abuse and
Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)-through the County of Fresno,
has implemented the Living Well Project (LWP). LWP provides direct
mental health services with staff that are culturally and linguistically
appropriate. In addition, LWP continues to partners with mental health
service providers to provide resources, preventive education, and appropriate
referrals to clients.
The purpose of the Living Well Project is to:
- Be an advocate to the Hmong community
in terms of mental health services.
- Provide education to the Hmong
community and those professionals and organizations that serve the Hmong
community.
- Provide direct services to the Hmong community through
individual/family settings, group settings, psycho-education, and case
management to help cope with stressful situations.
