Refugees Job First Project (RJF)

The Refugees Job First project is funded by the County of Fresno to assist refugees who have been in the United State for less than five years to become self-sufficient through employment. The primary goal is to educate newly arriving refugees with job skills, job search, and job placements.

The new Welfare Reform Law of 1996 has a major impact on these refugees because they have multiple barriers including language and job skills.  The new law imposes a 5-year lifetime eligibility welfare recipients to work.   Many refugees do not have enough time to acquire English or job skills.

FCNA, however, creates this program to provide refugees with acculturation, job coach, job placement, and other social adjustment to help them transition from welfare into unsubsidized employment.

Provides services to:

  • New refugees to the United State of America
  • Refugees who have been in the United States for less then five years
  • Individual who have been or will be laid off or terminated from work
  • Referral participants
  • CalWORKS participants
