Southeast Asian Advocacy Project

Program Description

The Southeast Asian Advocacy Project is a three-year program funded by the Marguerite Casey Foundation.  The purpose of this project is to create and foster leadership in individuals of Southeast Asian descent in Fresno County to become civic participants and proactively engage in policy impacting activities.   This project will also network with consulting firms to establish a curriculum and provide professional development to staff and potentially community-based organizations.

For a long time the Southeast Asian refugee community has been hindered by cultural and language disadvantages.   Thus, this community is underserved, limiting itself to a few voices.   The core component of this project is to create its own voice that comes from within the Southeast Asian community.   Through this project, FCNA plans to establish more concrete relationships with other non-Southeast Asian entities – policy makers, elected officials, and government and health other entities.

Goal of the Project:

·        Leadership training workshops for community leaders

·        Voting Registration as community empowerment

·        Provide information on county ordinance, regulations, and other information pertinent to the Southeast Asian community

·        Capacity-building, networking, and professional development
